Seeds Started March 28, 2009
Roma, Bonnie's Best and San Marzano tomato
Yellow Pear tomato, Zucchini, Sweet banana, Jalapeno, Tabasco and Bell peppers
Greenhouse effect, a great way to recycle your plastic produce bags from the grocery store. Egg cartons work great for seedlings, cut apart and put the whole thing into the ground.

In the Beginning...
It's March and I'm pouring over seed catalogs and surfing gardening websites. I am anxiously awaiting Spring and my chance to get out into the backyard and start working. I have so many garden ideas that my head is spinning. I've spent some time the last couple weeks chatting with fellow gardeners about starting a community to share our produce. I'm thinking if we work it out we can each choose veggies to grow and then share, that way we don't all end up with the same veggies and trouble getting rid of them. I swear every year I'm begging people to take tomatoes, zucchini, peppers whatever, just so they don't go to waste.
I also hope to try my hand at canning or at least get the extras into the freezer. I gave my big freezer away last Fall so I may have to trade veggies for freezer space with someone. I spent about an hour today looking through one of my new cookbooks to help me decide what I want to plant. I figure if I garden for the recipes I want to try then it should all work out. I'm also thinking of starting a Friday night dinner party. At least once a month have family and friends over for dinner that way I can try out my recipes and utilize the produce from my garden, seems like a win win situation for me.
Here's my veggie list; now I can't say I'm going to grow all of these myself but they are my choices: tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, peas, beans, broccoli, asparagus, cucumbers, squash, potatoes, lettuce, spinach and carrots. I'm kickin' around the idea of throwing in some onions and maybe a few herbs too. I really like sweet basil and it's easy to grow. I already have rhubarb in the yard, that comes up every year.
Now I need to spend some time designing my gardens. I've had two 4' X 4' raised beds the last couple years which have worked well but they are in serious need of repair. I'm taking them both out and rebuilding them. I also plan to add a few more raised beds. Time to search the web for designs...
